When cycling is your passion, make the most of every ride.
A perfect blend of technology and ride refinement, the Beinn 20 Pro Series is a class-leading bike which delivers race-tuned performance.
The Beinn 20 Pro Series features a smooth-welded, ultra light 7005 aluminum frame with a hydroformed top tube. The frame has been Proportionally designed for excellent fit with tube profiles optimized for strength, performance and weight.
Constructed from smooth-welded 7005 aluminum, the Beinn 20 Pro Series frame features a hydroformed top tube, curved downtube and shaped stays and is topped off with a durable satin grey finish and bright red highlights.
As with all Islabikes, the frame features painstakingly researched and refined geometry and sizing specifically developed for young riders. Our holistic approach means that all components are carefully selected to complement each other, working together to ensure perfect fit and handling. The result is a bike that not only instills confidence in the rider but optimizes efficiency for an exciting, involving riding experience.
Light, responsive handling
Exclusive Islabikes full carbon disc fork for the lightest possible weight, premium ride comfort and confident, responsive handling.
Full UD carbon construction of the fork legs, crown and steerer results in a very low weight of approximately 320 grams. Our monocoque design has shaped and flattened leg profiles to save further weight and ensure direct steering predictability. The legs are subtly tapered in shape, adding a little ride compliance. Forward facing dropouts counteract the forces applied to the axle under braking and ensure the wheel stays securely in place. Internal routing keeps the brake hose neatly out of harms way and we’ve even carefully shaped the tip to help locate the wheel for easy wheel fitting.
In spite of their exceptionally low weight the forks are built to be extremely durable and withstand rigorous loads, over-and-above testing.
Consistent, more powerful braking for small hands
Sram DB5 hydraulic disc brakes adjusted by us for very short reach provide highly controllable, reliable stopping, regardless of the conditions.
Lightweight 140mm Sram centerline rotors deliver perfect braking power for lighter riders. Disc brakes really come into their own in harsher, steeper and muckier off road conditions where braking power remains consistent and predictable with little effort required at the lever. Our testing has shown that the Sram DB series brakes have the brake pivot closer to the bars; this provides better function when the reach is adjusted short. Being from the same component stable, the lever shape also mates well with the gripshift, resulting in a tidy, comfortable handlebar control set up.
Premium shifting performance and reliability
A narrow/wide aluminum chainring combined with a clutch-equipped rear derailleur provides dependable chain retention while eliminating the need for additional chainguides.
Narrow/wide chainrings have an alternating tooth profile which is formed to match the alternating inner profile of the chain. This results in a better interface between the two, dramatically improving chain retention with single ring (1x) setups. The 104 BCD mounting on our Pro Series chainset means that the 32 tooth, narrow/wide chainring is easy to remove for replacement when worn and easily interchangeable for racers looking to fine-tune their gear ratios.
The Sram Type 2 GX rear derailleur has a clutch mechanism which prevents movement of the derailleur arm when in gear, reducing variations in chain tension when riding over rough terrain. Combined with the narrow wide chainring, this removes the need for additional chain guards or guides, simplifying the drivetrain and saving weight.
Extending the range
A specially customized cassette gives us a 9 speed, 11-36 tooth range, resulting in a wide selection of gears, expanding the rider’s potential on all terrains.
Short chain stays are necessary on a 20″ wheeled bike to maintain good handling and riding balance but present a physical limit to how many cassette sprockets we can use. This is due to the angle which the chain has to work at the extremes of the cassette which is amplified by the short stays. We are normally restricted to a 7 speed cassette on these bikes.
Rather than compromise on geometry, and therefore handling and fit, simply to add more gears, our solution is a specifically adapted 10 speed cassette with the 15t and 17t sprockets removed and replaced with a single 16t. The result is a perfectly functioning 9 speed block which delivers extended gearing range across an evenly spaced spread.
Say goodbye to inner tubes
Nothing contributes more to the ride feel of a bike more than the wheel set. Stan’s No-Tubes Crest 20″, 20 hole rim laced to Islabikes super lightweight aluminum hubs result in a very light, smooth rolling wheel.
We worked in partnership with Stan’s No-Tubes to spec a lightweight, tubeless ready rim for the Beinn 20 Pro Series. For the first time the well-established Crest rim is available in a 20″ diameter, allowing us to bring lightweight, tubeless-ready technology to younger riders. Tubeless offers lower weight and the ability to run lower pressures with reduced puncture risk for increased grip and ride comfort.
Premium Islabikes aluminum disc hubs feature cartridge bearings for smooth rolling, low maintenance and reliability. Combined with stainless, narrow gauge, double-butted spokes and aluminum nipples these form the basis of a strong, light wheel which is ready to race.
Finally, we never forget the little details. Our hollow axle cro-moly quick release skewers weigh a svelte 61 grams for the pair, saving critical weight for race day.
Fast and grippy
Designed by us to perfectly complement our Pro Series models, these tires significantly enhance riding performance.
We started from the ground up, creating a tire sized perfectly in proportion with the bike. Tread design has been optimized to offer fast, grippy performance for lighter riders and is mated to a very supple 185TPI casing for excellent ride quality. Kevlar beads and lightweight skinwalls help to keep the tire weights competitively low, reducing critical rotating mass. This all means the bike accelerates more readily, effortlessly turning the rider’s pedaling effort into rapid forward motion. A light wheel is also easier to stop, improving braking performance and confidence.
Attention to the smallest details
Bottom brackets are often a hidden downgrade, even on high end bikes – not so with our Pro Series.
Here you’ll find a hollow titanium spindle with a carbon fiber shell for very light weight, reliable and smooth pedaling. We use cartridge bottom brackets as they are available in a wide range of sizes, meaning that we can factor in the perfect spindle width when developing our exclusive low Q factor cranks.
Turning effort into motion
Correct crank lengths are essential for pedaling efficiency and comfort.
More than just a shorter crank arm, Pro Series aluminum cranks are specifically sized for smaller riders and designed for very low Q factor and light weight.
Q factor is the distance between the cranks which dictates the spacing of the pedals. This is a particularly important consideration for smaller riders where, as a result of being shorter in the leg, the feet need to be closer together. The Beinn 20 cranks have a low Q factor of 135mm, which combines with 114mm arms to maximize comfort and ensure efficient pedaling action.
The crank arms benefit from a tough, black anodized finish, while outer faces are polished, resisting scuffs and rub marks which help to ensure the cranks retain their good looks.
Ultra light Islabikes aluminum platform pedals with titanium grip pins and axles add up to a very light, grippy and robust pedal which is perfectly sized for smaller feet.
The Beinn Pro Series pedals have a particularly slim profile, which when combined with our very narrow Q factor allows us to keep the bottom bracket as low as possible while still maintaining a safe lean angle, reducing the chance of pedal strikes when cornering.
