Sea Otter Classic, Monterey, California

Islabikes will be exhibiting our fleet of bikes at this four day festival

We had a great Cyclocross Crusade Kids’ Cross season, and we hope you did too. Here’s a recap of each race:

Alpenrose: crisp fall mornings set the stage for nearly three hundred young racers for opening weekend. Older children relished the opportunity to ride on the adult course, complete almost a full lap and experience the thrill of crossing the finish line in the velodrome.

Cascade Locks: the race course was a bit shorter this time, but featured enough bumps and berms to ensure a challenging race.  The Black Knight, a stealthy rider wearing black who hands our prizes to any racers who tags him, made an appearance during the older riders’ lap on the adult course.

Heron Lakes: we set up a pretty flat course with lots of twists and turns.  Wind and a pond-sized puddle added to the fun. Isla Rowntree, the founder of Islabikes, made an appearance and took second behind Laura Trace in the Masters Women 35+ category 1/2 race.

Bend: Lots of kids showed up for racing, costumes and fun during Halloween weekend. Racers enjoyed the zigs and zags of the kids’ course, set near the ampitheater, while bigger kids taking a lap on the adult course were offered cookie hand-ups.

Wooden Shoe: a rainy morning made for a soggy course, but that didn’t scare away the hearty gang of kids who turned up to race.

Barton Park: a beautiful day greeted racers at Barton Park for the series finale. The Kids’ Cross course featured the usual barriers, along with a good amount of gravel, and the kids enjoyed all of it.
