This bike is awesome! Most importantly it’s light, but the wheels roll smoothly and both brakes stop effectively. I really like the hand brake and my son uses that almost exclusively. He learned to ride this bike before he tuned 4 the first time he got on it. I gave him a light push and that was it. He used a balance bike for 1.5 years before moving to this. Because this has a hand brake I’ll never have to retrain him from using a pedal brake when he moves to a bigger bike. The handlebars are easily adjustable and the chain guard keeps him from getting clothes caught. I love it and so does he. We get a ton of compliments on it and his riding.

Our son started riding this at 3 years, 4 months, without prior experience and barely at the minimum inseam requirement. He was proficient in a couple months. I just need to run next to him, which is great exercise. While children this age are able to ride a bike, they really don’t have the necessary appreciation for risk, so I like to be close by for safety. Wonderful quality bike. Every other bike we looked at seemed like a toy by comparison.

My son was 4 when he started on his Islabike. He loved it the moment he got it! Made it so easy to transition from the balance bike after 3 months to his first bike. So light he could travel up big hills and keep up behind his dad. He’s turning 6 now and still LOVES riding it though we probably will need to upgrade him to the next bike up now that his baby brother started riding. We have tons of friends who have purchased other bikes for their kids and none of them love riding. It’s pricey, but buy this bike if you want your kid to enjoy biking and riding long distances.

I’m glad I did the research and found you. Although there are plenty of cheaper alternatives, Islabikes won us over. He was pedaling on his own within the 3rd try on his CNOC 16. The bike has been easy for him to maneuver and due to the number of compliments folks give him, he understands he has something special that he must take care of. Evidenced by the non existent secondary market, that alone tells you Islabikes are a cut above.

Our younger son will also enjoy this CNOC 16 when his brother grow out of it.

(Side note, the radness of the bike also doesn’t hurt my “dad brand” around other parents!)

As our biking needs grow, we’ll be back!

We upgraded to this bike two years ago when my son was 4.5 years. He could immediately pedal further and faster than before and he loves riding. The bike just got passed to his younger sister. The immediate difference in her riding is amazing. She had been struggling around on a princess bike that nearly outweighed her. Now she is flying down our street with a smile on her face and climbing hills that were impossible for her a few weeks ago.

The pricetag seems high but is totally worth it if you want your kids to love cycling. Consider that if you have a couple of kids you will easily get four or five years use out of the bike (and then likely sell it for good money). The quality difference between this and most other bikes we looked at is huge.

The Cnoc 16 is a great bike, but the US version is crippled by the presence of a heavy coaster brake.

This bike has the lightweight, size-specific components you would expect from Islabikes. My 3-year-old daughter quickly learned to use the hand brakes, although the levers on her bike did not come pre-adjusted. I had to reduce the reach before she could grab them easily, and moved the levers inboard so that her fingers are positioned for more leverage. The quality of the components is good, so all of these adjustments were easy to make.

The coaster (foot) brake was the big disappointment. First off, nowhere on the website does it mention that this bike has a coaster brake, and at the time I ordered the listed weight of the bike did not include the added weight the coaster brake, which is almost a pound. The listed weight has since been updated, but it looks like they still haven’t updated the pictures: the bike is shown with nice hex bolts securing the rear wheel, but the one I ordered came with a solid steel axle and big clunky nuts that require a flat wrench.

Other manufacturers sell lighter 16-inch wheeled bikes in the US without coaster brakes, and in hindsight I wish I had purchased one of those.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, Krishna.

We’re glad to hear your daughter learned to use the hand brakes quickly. Our micro-reach brake levers are adjusted to the maximum distance from the bars, which enables most children who fit this bike to reach the levers comfortably. We’re also glad to hear the reach adjustment screw was easy to use to fine tune the lever position.

Our Cnoc 14 and 16 are only available in the US with a coaster brake, along with two hand brakes. We’ve equipped the bikes with a coaster brake in order to comply with the US bicycle standards as put forth by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The coaster brake is noted on the full specification sheet for the Cnoc 16.

We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the bike. We do offer a 90-day, no-questions-asked return policy.

My son loves this bike since all the parts are proportioned to him including the weight. This was his first bike so I took off the pedals to make it balance bike for him and he took to it right away. When he finally wanted the pedals on, I had him on a small grass hill so that he can get some speed before putting his feet on and now he zooms around everywhere.

Although this is more expensive than many other bikes this size, it is worth it. From the narrow and kid length crankset, smaller saddle, weight, wheels, it is a better quality than the big name brand bikes.

My daughter loves her Cnoc! She started “riding” a bike at age 2 using a balance bike, and the transition to a real bike was pretty seamless. Maybe it would’ve been the same with a heavy bike from a big box store, but I have to believe it was partly due to having such a nice bike.

We had one small issue with the back brakes rubbing against the tires–and that’s why I am writing this review. My husband (a relatively avid cyclist) noticed the problem and attempted to fix it, but determined there was something wrong with the construction of the bike, so I called Isla Bikes. Within 1 minute, I was transferred to a technician who immediately understood the problem and walked me through the steps to correct it. PHENOMENAL CUSTOMER SERVICE! (There was nothing wrong with the bike’s construction, by the way…a teeny-tiny screw was loose!)

Very, very happy to have made such a good purchase from a company that stands behind it’s product and provides immediate AND superior customer service. You will not be disappointed.

This bike is worth every penny! Not only is the bike amazing, islabikes customer service is also phenomenal. My daughter rode a balance bike for 2 years, then easily transitioned to the cnoc 16 when she was just turning 4. Within a couple months she was completely comfortable on the flat and downhill, then progressed to pedaling uphill, ramps, and trails. We are stoked on this bike… and will definitely be getting a 20 when she outgrows her 16!

Miracle bikes ! My daughter was riding a cheap bike, well not so cheap ! She turned 5 and still was having problems to ride without the stabilizers. I do not even remember how, but I have found Islabikes website. Read good reviews and decided to go for the bike. Price I have to admit is high, but… after one week on the bike without the pedals and stabilizers my daughter has learn how to balance the bike quite well. I have put on the pedals and after 20 minutes she was flying !!! I mean it. I had to run beside her because she was scared but she was riding herself. Now she loves the bike .
It is very light and very well made, as I said the cost seemed very high but now I only regret I did not buy it earlier !!!
Very easy to set up, 5 min. I hope the bike will last couple of years and then definitely moving on to the next size !

Absolutely the best bike ever for a child. I purchased a Cnoc 16 in August of 2015. So light and strong. We had her in a balance bike prior and upon her getting on it in 2015 she took right off without training wheels. She had a cheap big box store bike and it was heavy and she had a tough time in the handling. She could barely hold it up when stopping.
The ergonomics were awful in comparison with Isla bike.
I will be coming back for the next level soon ( Cnoc 20 ). My advice is save your money and invest in Isla bikes. The extra dollars will be well spent.

We got a CNOC 16 on a vacation to the UK, to avoid the dreaded coaster brake. Bringing it home on the plane was no trouble – BA doesn’t charge for bicycles in the hold, and its box protected it. Family thought we were nuts starting our 4 year old without training wheels (pedaling is the easy bit, it’s the balancing that takes practice – and training wheels teach them not to balance) but she had it nailed in under a week and was racing much older kids at the park. Two years later, she can ride all day with us and the bike has needed minimal maintenance. We’ve just unboxed a Beinn 20 for her 6th birthday, and looking forward to starting the same journey on the Cnoc with her almost-4 year old brother. Both times I’ve shopper other brands obsessively, but always come back to Islabikes for lightness, build quality, geometry, and value-for-money.

We ordered the Cnoc 16 for our almost 4-year old daughter about a week after she first rode a bike without her training wheels. I was a bit skeptical about the sizing, but after reassurances from the Islabikes team that it would be appropriate for her size, we got the bike. The fit and finish are outstanding, especially for a kids bike, and I’m impressed by how everything is downsized for a kid, from the wheel width, to the handlebar diameter, to the brake levers. Most importantly, our daughter jumped on the bike and was immediately comfortable and pedaling around with confidence. We’re very happy with the bike, and will upsize with Islabike until the kids are ready for adult-sized bikes.

My son has been riding his Cnoc 16 for over a year now. Islabikes are by far the best option for children’s bikes available. His confidence while riding has gone through the roof since being on the Cnoc 16. He has started to outgrow the bike and I have now ordered him a Pro Series Beinn 20. I can’t wait to see him progress in his cycling. The time we spend together riding is just about the funnest thing I have done in my life. This is all thanks to the top quality bikes manufactured by Isla that fit children correctly. Thank you!

This bike has taught 3 kids how to ride a bike! Used it so much had to replace the rear tire. Each kid (one of them not mine) learned how to balance and ride within about 20mins (no training wheels of course). We have purchased a second Islabike and my oldest is loving it as well. I have recommended to Isabikes to friends and family. The price maybe higher than other bikes but if the kids actually use the bike it is well worth it.

    I’m a bike novice.

Beautiful bike, prettier than its competitors in the lightweight starter-bike category. I bought pink for a tall 3.5 yr old to make learning to ride as easy as possible. She loves it.

The “free floating chainguard” is especially noteworthy, since competitors seem not to have chain guards. Certainly no one has a guard like the Cnoc’s.

The bike includes a coaster brake, no free wheel upgrade option, and optional training wheels (which are advised against). The optional fenders are very nice, and the optional name sticker is better-than-expected. Everything is top quality.

The little girl did learn with a balance bike, but she’s currently using training wheels for a few days just to learn how to pedal. I was actually against using the training wheels, but they are nice.

Suggestions: An optional bell, optional helmet.

I also felt guilty upon learning this company is boycotting the NRA, so I joined the NRA as recompense. Politics aside, this company understands bikes.

My 4 year old learned to pedal in ONE DAY!

My DS was pretty good with his balance bike and loved to ride, but was hesitant to get on a pedal bike. We had a used Specialized Hotrock. It’s heavier, but certainly a fine bike as well. After a few frustrating sessions with the Hotrock, I decided to get a CNOC 16. I was cautiously optimistic on whether a “real kids bike” can make the difference.

To my amazement, after one session my DS was able to pedal on his own. I know there are fabulous reviews on this bike on internet, but you really need to see the bike in person to fully appreciate it: the tiny little handlebar grips for little hands, the short crank arms (this makes the biggest difference IMO), lightweight, simplest installation (use hex wrench instead of 15mm wrench for pedals!), etc.

This bike is just perfect for me as I love riding bikes with my kids, but honestly did not enjoy the process of teaching them to ride all that much :-). The original sticker price is high, but re-sale value in my area is outstanding. And if you have more than one kid, getting this bike is a no brainer.

Bought the Cnoc 16 in 2015 for our then 4 y/o daughter. She was able to ride the bike down the street on her second attempt and we were able to ride to the local park that afternoon. It was a pretty amazing thing to watch. That being said she is/was athletic and she did practice for a week or two on a balance bike. She is now almost 7 and we have a Beinn on order. Her little brother is just about ready to inherit the Cnoc!
